The Yard Overhaul

We have finally gotten going on the backyard overhaul. This is our 'before shot'--as you can see, the soil that will grow something has produced 20 different types of weeds, some that were 4 foot tall! Absolutely no useable grass. Then there is the area that won't even grow grass!! It is a fill of gravel and sand the base put in after putting in water mains before we moved in that has turned rock hard.

It took Dave quite awhile but he figured out how to successfully use the rented tiller to break up the rock hard fill...
Best way to go (but not the safest way I'm sure...) is to have Dave Theissen weighting down the front!
All in all, it was a long hard hot day resulting in heat exhaustion for Dave. He was sick the rest of the weekend. By the next weekend we had finished picking the leftover thousands of rocks and weeds out of the dirt, and finally seeded it. Hopefully in 2-4 weeks we will see some germination. What a lot of work! I told Dave I feel like a grown up...expecting a baby and doing lawn work--voluntarily!
