Boat Trip!

Ah, to get back to the sea again. I joined my buddies in Pearl Harbor to sail back from RIMPAC aboard LHD-6, the USS Bonhomme Richard.

A sailor's view of Honolulu.

A nice sand bar.

A boat near a beach. Sweet.

The floating white structures are Pearl Harbor memorials. They're anchored above the sunken ships.  The large one is the USS Arizona Memorial.

Note the differences between the "Welcome" signs on Naval Base Pearl Harbor, and its neighbor Hickam Air Force Base.

Of course, the mandatory "Captain Morgan" pose.

Impressive parallel parking jobs by the ground crew.  Somehow, this ship is capable of holding about 16 aircraft (depending on type) along the right side, and still have room for takeoffs and landings.

An aerial view of LHD-6. I didn't take it, of course, because aerial photography is prohibited.
Anchors aweigh!

I'm glad you got to go to Pearl Harbor. It is very sobering to stand there and take all that history in. The size of LHD-6 is mind boggling too! Your "Captain Morgan" pose needs a barrel! But impressive, Dave! Where can we find a barrel for you to take around with you?
